The Biodiversity Offsets and Ecological Compensation network builds upon the legacy of two collaborations that played a key role in developing best practice in biodiversity offsetting and other ecological compensation approaches. These groups – particularly, the Business and Biodiversity Offsets Programme (BBOP) over a 15 year period, and more latterly, the Science for Nature and People Partnership
We strive to continue aspects of the ground-breaking work made by these alliances, and maintain the momentum generated in aligning business, governments, environmental professionals and researchers to achieve co-developed solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
To do this, we will act as a central repository of information on the science behind and practice of the mitigation hierarchy, and especially its final step – biodiversity offsetting or ecological compensation.
Through this forum, we will facilitate and encourage engagement among stakeholders, through online and in-person events, so that this is a truly global community of practice, drawing on the extraordinary knowledge and varied experiences of you all.
